i was thinking of having a herb garden but i’m worried about one thing. our dog. i think he might dig it up

Use a couple of large pedestal planters – the dog won’t get up there to dig. Save some weight and soil by buying some packing peanuts to go at the bottom – it’s good for drainage too. Sometimes you can find these planters at garage sales.
Perennials won’t survive in planters over winter unless you store them in a frost-free area. (Chives, oregano and garlic are perennials)
