Definitely says something about materialism and “looking up” to the rich and wealthy… High fashion is only available for those who can afford it.. The fact that so many people want to emulate it, even when they are broke, says we place value on economic hierarchy in our society.. If you are broke, you are not as valuable.. That’s why so many people who can’t really afford the lifestyle are broke.. Because they are trying so hard to emulate it….. This is true in other countries also.. In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, having the best phone, clothes, cars, hairstyles etc.. are what make you “worthy” or “unworthy” among your peers….. I think it has to do with such a small population actually being able to afford it, but many pretend they can to have a piece of that feeling of superiority…
OR maybe not… Just my two cents
