Is water based stain good for vegetable garden wood frame?

Question by Lakshmi D: Is water based stain good for vegetable garden wood frame?
We are looking for non-toxic and no VOC stain to stain our vegetable garden bed wood frame.

Thinking of using a water based low VOC stain since this is what available in the local stores. Wondering whether this is a good choice. Appreciate any suggestions.

We live in Southern California. If any one can point me to a store here that carries Soy based wood stains here, that would be great too.

You can always use vegetable oil or something like that. I forget what we used in wood shop as a kid but it was some nut or vegetable oil we used on stuff you would eat off of. Like cutting boards or bowls. I would just put in raw wood. Your very selfish for having a garden in SoCal sucking up all of my NorCal water. There will be a war over water one day.

Most deck finishes are water based and should work for you.
