organic farmed/wildcrafted herb storage with skeeter

www.permies.com Michael “Skeeter” Pilarski shows me his storage shed for his herbs. He has a successful business of selling herbs, both fresh and dried. Skeeter is a well known permaculture instructure and wildcrafter. He mentions that about 3 of his dried herbs are organic farmed (vs. wildcrafted (wild harvested)) and 1/2 of his fresh herbs are organic farmed. It sure smells good in there! Skeeter talks a little about his herb cleaning system. Skeeter also has tinctures. The shed is dry and rodent proof with a good, even temperature. There is enough in the shed for hundreds of thousands of cups of tea, and hundreds of thousands of bottles of tincture. Well known clients of skeeter’s: “The Herbalist” and “The Herbalist and Alchemist” – most of Skeeter’s stuff ends up with naturopaths. music by Jimmy Pardo

Part 2 of the Summer 2010 Food Forest tour… Zone 1…is the kitchen herb garden. Zone 2… is the Almond and Peach Guild…mixed in with Sea Buckthorn and raspberries. The comfrey is mixed in EVERYWHERE…and is an absolute STAPLE…in this strategy…it’s mining minerals constantly, we then chop..and drop… the leaves in place..to build fertility. The worms love this…. The clover is also building fertility and attracting beneficial insects. We’ve been eating it too… Zone 3…is the terraced beds…which are being transplanted to GOJI BERRIES right now..with other mixed perennial herbs Zone 4…is the DOME. As well as figs and pomegrates making up this guild/zone. Zone 5…are the lower beds…and will be in the next video. Might change the “zones” to…other names..haha…I like Terabithia…and other such names… :) www.rawutah.com

hey, thanks for the kind comment, very appreciated. yup, the shade cloth is for creating a shaded mircoclimate. this climate zone, goes from cold to really hot…quickly. with the shade? cloth attached to pvc, i can easily move the shade where i need it. my trees are growing quickly, so hopefully one day, they will help with the shade/mircoclimate.

I planted asparagus this year about 2 feet wide around my whole garden. When it comes up it is like a little green fence! haha, Im? waiting till next spring to harvest though. I know a farmer that grows egyptian onions and they are potent! They look like medusa coming up each year to guard his mulberry trees.
