@thegardenguru1 thanks for the short and informative video. Thanks for responding to questions too! I’ll be watching more of your vids. Happy planting!

    Hello! Great video, very informative.

My question is: I currently show only the “male” flowers. This morning, I tried to pollinate, but I didn’t find the “female” flower. Will they be able to grow soon or how long will I have to wait until I find the “female” flowers?

    Thanks!

And don’t forget! Those flowers that you’re picking off? They’re GREAT to eat. Dip in egg batter and fry in olive oil – or – pick fresh tiny zucchinis and mince well, add bread crumbs, grated parmesan, egg and parsley salt and pepper – pinenuts too if you like them. Stuff the flower heads (do not cut out the stamen), fold leaves together and secure with a toothpick and fry in oil. All I can say is WOW what a delight!

My mate is about to start her garden, and we are both eager….problem is, we can’t find ANYWHERE suggestions on : full sunlight, or partial sunlight, hour specification (6+etc). Could anyone suggest or knows which it is, so that we can help our zucchini be as happy as possible. Thanks!

    Flower sex.

  13. MrandMissConverted says:

The flower is so similar to that of the pumpkin. If zuchini is planted close to pumpkin (cucumbers and melons), will there ever be the risk of cross pollination? Also, what are good companion plants for zuchini?

i was just thinking, is it ok to use a Qtip. Im sure it will work to?

  16. thegardenguru1 says:

@cosmenherst Yes, looking fro male and female flowers and pollinating daily with ensure maximum return. You can use one male flower on several female flowers. All the best!

Hello, I’m really glad I found your videos and I have a few questions for you, if that’s alright! Are you saying we need to pollinate the flowers ourselves every day? Or just look for male and female flowers every day? Would one need to chop off a different male flower each time? Could we use the same male flower for the next zucchini plant down the row? I’m pretty new to gardening and totally new to pollinating, so any advice would be grand. Thank you!

@ANDYTHEFISH I’ve heard of using q-tips… I tried it in my ag class (for college) but it didn’t seem to work too well :-/ might have to try the paint brush (I’m thinking the hair would work better than the cotton)

  23. EquestrianKingdom says:

@woodlandcammo27 zucchini and watermelon are ok next to each other b/c zucchini is squash and watermelon is melon. However, cucumbers do cross with watermelon, since cukes are technically melons. So as long as you leave enough room that the watermelon vines don’t choke out your zucchini (or bury it so you can’t get to it lol), you shouldn’t have to worry… not about cross-pollination anyway :)
