Question by Jack Lapidus: What are some tips for starting an herb garden and growing berries and vegetables?
…and can I grow them in the same garden or should I use pots for them?
Answer by Sew What?
The first thing you want to do is visit a nursery or garden center near where you live and find out what plants are being offered for sale and what’s being planted now.
Web search your county agricultural extension office. You should find it by typing your county and state names followed by the words agricultural extension service. Example: Maricopa County Arizona agricultural extension service. This is the local authority on what grows well where you live.
Also visit your friends and neighbors who garden, or peek over their fences. What are they growing?
In ground or pots depends on how much room you have for a garden, soil conditions, and the weather. In most of the country, it’s too cold to plant outdoors now, but it’s not too early to start planning. I plant herbs, veggies and strawberries in raised beds or directly into the ground.
Today I went out in my back yard, snipped a couple of springs of Rosemary and dropped them into the turkey soup. Yum.
Almost forgot: It is important to make sure you have the soil right before you start planting.
