Question by maegan s: What are the operational/spacial requirements for a High Fashion Designer?
I am a student of Architecture @ the University of Nevada Las Vegas I have been given a project to design a living/working space (10,000 sq ft) for a High Fashion designer. I have a few questions in regards to the operational requirements that will be needed in the space(s). I have looked online and in our local library’s but have had no luck finding information. I would greatly appreciate your help in answering a few questions below.
What is the process (start to beginning) designers use in creating a new line?
Are their different spaces used to complete these tasks?
What items are required for these tasks to be completed?
Thanks!!!

a drafting table and light , with good window light would help, a dress dummy or two, sewing machine, cutting table about 4 ft wide and 8 ft long, room to hold bolts of fabric, trims and so on, good lighting in all these areas is a must and its best to have full spectrum daylight lighting because the colors of fabrics change under artificial lights. dressing room for the model or customer. full length mirrors, good airflow as most fabric dyes are set with formaldahyde and the smell can really be strong. likely needs a washer and dryer and it might be good to have a large tub where a person can do creative dye baths too. i live near sunrise mtn. holler if you need more ideas

Im not sure if this will help but…most fashion designers need a sewing or patern making station also a comfortable sketch area. They may also want to use the space as a showroom. A section for fabric samples and swatchs is always a must.
