What is best ph for herb garden?

Question by Susan E: What is best ph for herb garden?
I have herbs growing in an old tree stump which did well last year, but this year, not so. I’m wondering if the ph might be one of the reasons. What is the best ph for various herbs? Does the best ph differ among the herbs?

    The best pH does differ, but the average is slightly acidic. Drainage is the big issue and also varies. Most hate a heavy clay soil.
