What is the problem with my tulips?

This happens every time I plant tulip bulbs… The first season they come up they are beautiful. Tall, full blooms.

Each year after, they seem more and more clumped, like they are strangling each other. They also have shorter stems and scanty flowers.

This does not happen with my hyacinths. They are lovely and full year after year.

What is happening with my tulips? Do other bulbs do this as well?

  1. Mark says:

In an ideal world, you dig them up and divide and replant. If you are not doing that, they ARE choking each other out.

The other option is to plant deeper.
