When should I start shopping for my unborn baby?

Question by YaY!!!: When should I start shopping for my unborn baby?
I’m in my first trimester with my first baby.

When should I start shopping for baby stuff and how much stuff should I get?

What baby items are must-haves and what items (if any) can I put off until after the baby arrives or put off completely?

Also, how much newborn clothing should I have and how soon will the baby outgrow it?

All advice appreciated.

As soon as you find out the sex.

Crib, carseat, clothing, diapers, etc. That’s just a few things, there are lists all over the internet that will tell you what you need, but there isn’t really a lot that you “need,” if you know what I’m saying.

Also, don’t buy a lot of newborn clothing, they outgrow it FAST. Same with 0-3 month clothing.

I’m 22 weeks and I just started shopping last week. While this is my 4th child, I am starting over. I was done having children after my last one who is now 6 1/2. I got rid of her baby stuff years ago! I am not going overboard on clothes because like you said, they grow quickly the first year.
I do find cute stuff from summer on clearance racks. I buy them in bigger sizes and get them dirt cheap for next summer. I try and split things between 0-3 months and 3-6 months. If I think I can roll up the legs or sleeves for a few weeks, I buy it a little bigger.
I figure all I really NEED is a crib, swing, clothes, bathtub, diapers, and bottles. Keep in mind you will receive gifts!

I am 26 weeks along with my first and I started buying things gradually right off even though you are not supposed to until after the first trimester. Some people do not start buying until they find out the sex, but that did not stop me. haha. Preparing for the babe has helped me stay busy while my husband has been away. (he is deployed.)

I went to yard sales and bought my big stuff there so it was cheaper. Craigslist.com has a lot of really good stuff as well.

    Good luck and Congratulations!

best thing to do is wait until you find out what you are having if you dont want to know then wait out until you take your sonogram at the 20 week mark this way you know your pregnancy statis. newborn cloths i would buy only a little bit if any. 0-3 months cloths is what would be more useful. babies grow really fast. your baby might be to big for newborn cloths also. about two weeks worth of cloths is good to start. a bunch of onsees and pjs are great to get. a couple 3-6 month cloths are great to have incase your baby grows really fast which happens with bigger babies. a crib car seat and bouncer is the best things to get first. shoes are not needed until the baby is walking. people pay out lots of money for them to be woren by the shelves theyll sit on. booties are great to get. also burp rags and bibs because formula can stain outfits.

    congrats! what an exciting time!

on a serious note, if your pregnancy were to have complications they’ll most likely be during the first trimester. therefore, it may be a good idea to wait until the 2nd trimester to buy a bunch of baby things.

if you cant wait to start shopping (i couldnt!)clothes are really tempting to buy , but i try to limit myself to only buying things that i think are super cute because i get so many outfits as gifts. if they’re full term they only wear the newborn size for a month at the most, so its a good idea to start with the 0-3month size.

you can always “shop” for the things you’d like to have by starting a gift registry. give other people the opportunity to help you celebrate your family’s new edition!
