Question by * s l y t h e r c l a w *: Why do high fashion models have to be so tall and thin?
Is there any particular reason?
Besides the fact that it’s basically today’s warped portrayal of beauty…
I mean, is it easier for them to find clothes that look good on them or something?

it really has nothing to do with our warped portrayal of beauty. most guys dont even find fashion models attractive at all. they just have bodies like mannequins, which makes high-end clothing drape and fit really well
for the moron who said designers were cheap. most designers are working with garments that start in the thousands of dollars/euros, i dont think they really give a damn about the money. nice try though
What do you think? Answer below!
They are basically used as “coat-hangers”.. That is the point for them to be tall and skinny
I think it’s what you said. It looks good on them. Take a reasonable overweight person. Is a mini skirt and a tank top gonna look good on them? No.
Would someone really think a dwarf looks good in a strapless mini dress? No.
The fact is being tall ans skinyn makes the clothes look good which makes more people buy them.
hope I helped.. :]:]
because if they are rack thin they appear ” A sexual” not a girl /not a boy therefore the designer has all the power to show his work not the model
i have a theory..
thee desiqners.. are REALLY cheap..
so they would rather have skinny models; so they dont have to waste as much material on them?
[; smart? i know; dont flatter me
I work as a model in an international modeling agency. And I’m 5’10″ and skinny. Well the reason why models are tall and skinny is especially the legs. Most skirts dresses etc. tend to look better on women with long legs. Short cut t-shirts, tanks-tops etc look better with tight tummy.
It is not just being tall and skinny though. Professional models has to be close to 5′ 9″ and 34-24-24. Because on runway shows or during catalogue shots for branded clothes, almost all clothes are being prepared for these measurements. Since they can’t make different clothes for every model.
Of course there are women with better healthy bodies that look much better than too skinny models. But when you consider that camera puts around 5 pounds to a person, models HAVE to be skinny to look beautiful on TV or photos.
I think for both aesthetic and practical reasons, that’s the longtime standard in the modeling industry. A tall, slender body is considered a better “hanger” for a designer’s clothes, both on the runway and in front of the camera (which really does add pounds). Clothing samples are cut to fit tall, slender bodies. For girls, that usually means clothes cut in sizes 4 to 6, fitting for a girl with a minimum height of 5 feet 7 inches. For guys, jacket sizes run from 40 to 42 and clothes are designed for who are minimum height of 5 feet 11 inches. Occasionally, an agency will accept shorter models (especially teenagers who wear large shoe sizes and have tall parents, in hopes that they will continue to grow). Some agencies also have divisions for petite and plus-size models, but the client demand is less for those categories.
i don’t know, but its ridiculous
i think you can be any size[well not super big]
& look good in the clothes.
as long as they fit you right .
‘Cuz the world’s unfair.
I know. Everyone thinks that beauty is thinness. And it’s not fair at all, considering how NOBODY has a big butt, big boobs, a flat stomach, nice hips, AND a little waist all in one.
i think its because people think that extremely thim models are healthy but they are really not they sometimes lack vitamins and minerals in their body. i think that you need to put average size girls to model because they are giving young girls a bad influence like they NEED to be thin and sickly looking to luk gud in clothes but that is not true!
Apparently the clothes look better on them.
they cast less of a shadow and ya don’t have to feed them anything
Don’t know.
Not that nice to look at.
I like them short with a good size chest on them!
